There are several logo design types and styles to consider when creating a logo. It is extremely important to choose the right style of logo to match your business. The wrong logo can portray your company as something it isn’t. The most common logo design type is the iconic / emblem style. These logos look extremely professional and normally feature clean text with an abstract emblem or symbol that may or may not be related to your business. The other popular type is an illustrative logo. Lots of company logos feature something highly specific and related to their business as opposed to the abstract shapes of the iconic designs. Illustrative logos are a personal favourite of mine however they can look a little unprofessional if they’re too complex / detailed. They also tend to be a little less serious than the abstract emblem style logos. Finally, some people opt for no illustration or symbol whatsoever, they simple have text, often in a specifically styled or custom font. Text based logos suit almost any business.

Most logo designers who offer custom logo design services will normally ask you if you want the symbolic, illustrative or text only design before creating the initial concepts.
